Application Engineer

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring an Application Engineer to develop net-new solutions and refactor prototype applications into secure, reliable tools that improve business profitability, efficiency and customer experience. The role focuses on hardening AI-assisted prototypes for broader use, while also designing and building new applications from the ground up to advance analytics capabilities. It sits in the Store Support Center and typically reports to a Manager or Senior Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Solution development (about 60%): develop, test, deploy and maintain data pipelines and products, keeping data architectural standards and ETL/ELT best practices for a cloud-based data store.
• Collaboration (about 20%): work with analysts, data scientists, product managers and business leaders on the design, implementation and testing of data pipelines, and take part in Agile delivery and improvement discussions.
• Technical exploration and development (about 20%): learn from experiments, succeed and fail, and actively seek growth through formal and informal channels.
• Manage integration points for AI agent interactions, balance workload and priorities, and communicate progress clearly.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Preferred: 4+ years of experience in application engineering, software development or data engineering; minimum 3 years preferred.
• No leadership experience required.

Required skills

• Preferred: proficiency in a modern programming language, preferably Python.
• Preferred: querying enterprise data, preferably with Google BigQuery or SQL.
• Preferred: building and deploying net-new applications, refactoring or modernizing codebases, and building APIs and data pipelines.
• Preferred: familiarity with cloud environments, CI/CD, and security frameworks for authorization and authentication.
• Preferred: experience leading quality assurance with unit, functional and regression tests.
