Animal Caretaker – Large Animal Hospital

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Animal Caretaker to join the Texas A&M Large Animal Hospital team. In this full‑time position you will support daily operations by providing routine care, handling and restraining large animals, and maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.
Key responsibilities
- Check inventory of feed, cleaning supplies, buckets and bowls.
- Clean stalls, barns, feed rooms, shavings rooms and disinfect treatment areas.
- Observe and report animal health concerns; assist with feeding, watering and transportation of animals.
- Handle and restrain horses, cattle, sheep, goats and other large species as needed.
- Assist veterinary technicians and operate a forklift and university vehicles.
- Empty manure cans, manage waste disposal and turn out animals to paddocks.
- Communicate with hospital services and maintain equipment care.
Required profile
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 1 year of experience handling and caring for large animals (horses, cattle, sheep, goats).
- Knowledge of animal feeds, disinfectants, PPE protocols and bio‑security practices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to multitask.

What we offer
- Hourly wage of $15.85
- Full‑time schedule with benefits (Thursday‑Monday or Friday‑Tuesday, 7 am‑3:30 pm)
