Air Cargo Specialist Lead

About the role

The Air Cargo Specialist Lead oversees the safe and efficient handling of air cargo for Worldwide Aviation Support Services, an AAR business. The role combines hands‑on loading and unloading with supervision of a team of ten cargo handlers, ensuring compliance with all safety, security and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and schedule a team of 10 Air Cargo Handlers, providing ad‑hoc training and maintaining a rotation schedule.
• Load and unload aircraft using forklifts, tugs and other ground support equipment, securing cargo and verifying weight distribution.
• Prepare, label and document cargo for shipment, including hazardous materials and live animals, in accordance with international and local regulations.
• Operate Automated Information Systems (AIS) within the Defense Transportation System (DTS) to track, account for, and interface movement data with load‑planning programs.
• Coordinate with flight crews, ground operations and the Cargo Operations Manager to ensure timely cargo movements and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate records, conduct routine equipment checks, and uphold cleanliness and safety standards in the cargo handling area.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years experience in cargo handling, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Physical stamina and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and security procedures.

Required skills

• Forklift operation.
• Tug and ground support equipment operation.
• Use of Automated Information Systems (AIS) and Defense Transportation System (DTS) for cargo tracking.
• Knowledge of hazardous material handling and live‑animal transport regulations.
