AI Scientist / Senior, Clinical & Molecular Genomics Modeling
roche · South San Francisco
Job description
About the role
Genentech's AI Biology & Translation (AIBT) group is hiring an AI Scientist or Senior AI Scientist to build models that improve the design of clinical trials. The role connects molecular data to clinical outcomes to understand patient treatment responses, identify biomarkers of disease progression, treatment and resolution, and inform target discovery and prioritization. You will build new models from scratch on multimodal omics datasets with clinical metadata, working across disease areas. The team includes computational and AI scientists and collaborators from research, translational and clinical teams.
Key responsibilities
- Build and scale new AI models, develop interpretable machine learning frameworks and scale them on large datasets
- Create models linking heterogeneous molecular and cellular data with clinical outcomes, focusing on prognostic, predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers
- Work with a cross-functional team to understand use cases, design models to fit them and guide their application
- Organize and integrate heterogeneous data from internal and public cohorts into model-ready inputs
- Identify data collection requirements for upcoming trials to train and validate future models
- Share and deploy the models with other computational users and clinical stakeholders
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related quantitative field
- Proven experience building machine learning and AI models from scratch
- Hands-on experience with messy genomics data (dozens or hundreds of studies) and/or clinical datasets
- Ability to use agentic coding tools to improve code and modeling outputs
- Senior level: 2 years of experience building ML models and/or interpreting models for target discovery, biomarker discovery or clinical decision making, plus expertise in modern ML research such as graph, diffusion, transformer, reinforcement learning or multimodal representation learning
What we offer
- Salary range of $127,500-$236,900 for the AI Scientist and $147,800-$274,400 for the Senior AI Scientist, depending on experience, qualifications and location
- A discretionary annual bonus may be available
- Relocation benefits are not available for this posting
