AI Researcher (PhD), 2027 Graduate

About the role

Atlassian is looking for an AI Researcher (PhD) to join its Machine Learning Research team, working on advanced ML and AI technologies such as large language models, generative AI, search, conversational agents and AI optimization. The role is preferred to be co-located to Seattle, WA or San Francisco, CA, and is open to candidates who are currently enrolled full-time in a doctorate program and graduating by August 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Design system and model architectures.
• Conduct rigorous experimentation and model evaluations.
• Apply AI/ML to product problems to improve Atlassian products and contribute to Atlassian Intelligence features.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science or a relevant technical field.
• Full-time enrollment in a doctorate program in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field, graduating by August 2027.
• Strong foundation in AI/ML, LLMs, optimization and related techniques.
• Experience with research, publishing and building and scaling machine learning models on large datasets.
• Agile development mindset; must be able to obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment.

Required skills

• Preferred: Python, NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Hugging Face, PyTorch, NLP, computer vision, reinforcement learning and AI optimization.
• Preferred: familiarity with state-of-the-art ML/AI research, including publications in top conferences or journals.

What we offer

• Base pay for new hires in the US: Zone A $178,200-$232,650, Zone B $160,380-$209,385, Zone C $147,906-$193,100.
