AI PhD Foundation Model for Clinical Imaging Internship

About the role

Lilly’s Advanced Intelligence & Research team is seeking a PhD‑level intern to advance foundation models for clinical imaging. You will work on a scoped project that has real business impact, collaborating with experienced research scientists across multiple therapeutic areas.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, adapt, or fine‑tune foundation models for diverse imaging modalities such as MRI, PET, CT, ultrasound, digital pathology, and retinal imaging.
• Integrate imaging‑derived representations with clinical, biomarker, and longitudinal data to support prediction, stratification, and risk‑assessment tasks.
• Evaluate model performance, robustness, generalizability, and interpretability, and communicate findings to clinical and business stakeholders.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field with at least three years of graduate work.
• Foundational knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, medical imaging, and hands‑on programming experience in Python.
• Authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without sponsorship.

Required skills
