AI Architect – Lead AI Infrastructure

About the role

The AI Architect will lead the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of LSU’s AI infrastructure and services. Working closely with researchers, faculty, staff, and campus partners, the role supports AI‑driven research, teaching, and operational initiatives across on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

Key responsibilities

• Consult with researchers and department heads to assess AI needs, recommend solutions, and guide the integration of AI technologies into research, teaching, and service delivery.
• Design, deploy, and maintain AI computing environments on‑premises, in the cloud, and in hybrid configurations, including HPC systems, containers, and specialized AI software.
• Provide technical support for AI workloads, assisting users with setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Advise on secure data handling, storage, movement, and operational considerations for AI workflows, ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
• Stay current with emerging AI tools, platforms, and best practices, contributing to service planning, documentation, and continuous improvement of ITS AI offerings.

Required profile

• Proven experience collaborating with academic researchers, faculty, and staff to define AI requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to design and support AI infrastructure across on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Understanding of security, access, and sustainability considerations for AI services.
