Advanced Practice Provider – Wainwright Unit

About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider will work on the Wainwright Unit, delivering comprehensive clinical care to incarcerated and juvenile justice patients under the supervision of a unit physician. This position is integral to the Correctional Managed Care mission of serving underserved populations within Texas correctional facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, and order appropriate diagnostic studies.
• Review radiographs, laboratory results, ECGs, and formulate therapeutic regimens in accordance with protocols.
• Document all patient encounters in the electronic medical record and ensure accurate classification of patients.
• Monitor chronic care patients, provide preventive counseling, and educate on nutrition and medication adherence.
• Act as the physician’s representative for delegated clinical duties and coordinate interdisciplinary care.

Required profile

• Completion of an ARC‑PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NCCPA certification and licensure by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
• Ability to work in a secure correctional environment and obtain required security clearance.
• Commitment to adherence with internal controls, reporting structures, and compliance standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Ability to interpret radiographs, laboratory data, and ECGs.
• Knowledge of clinical protocols for acute and chronic care management.
