Advanced Practice Provider – Pediatric Acute Care (Nights)

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Pediatric Institute seeks an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant certified in Pediatric Acute Care for a full‑time night shift in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU III). The APRN will provide advanced, high‑acuity care to critically ill children.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive histories, physical exams, and develop differential diagnoses for acute and chronic pediatric conditions.
• Order, interpret, and act on laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic tests; prescribe and monitor medications within prescriptive authority.
• Execute specialized procedures such as bone marrow aspiration, biopsies, IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and assist with complex interventions including ECMO and CRRT.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, ensure continuity of care, and facilitate discharge planning.
• Provide patient and family education, serve as a clinical preceptor, and contribute to quality monitoring and research activities.

Required profile

• Nationally certified NP or PA with Pediatric Acute Care certification.
• Previous PICU experience preferred; new graduates with strong ICU exposure are welcome.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a supervising physician and adhere to CCF credentialing privileges.
• Commitment to ethical, compassionate, and high‑quality patient care.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of mechanical ventilation and respiratory support.
• Experience with CRRT, ECMO, and other high‑intensity therapies.
• Proficiency in performing invasive procedures (bone marrow aspiration, biopsies, spinal taps, thoracentesis, paracentesis).
• Interpretation of laboratory, radiologic, and cardiographic data.
• Prescriptive authority and medication management.
