Adult Perfusionist

About the role

The Adult Perfusionist joins Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus heart‑lung team, providing critical support during cardiopulmonary bypass and advanced cardiac procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, operate, and disassemble the heart‑lung machine according to established clinical practice.
• Provide total patient support during cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, and related perfusion procedures.
• Set up and operate Cell Savers, rapid infusion devices, and other perfusion equipment, including use of fluoroscopy when required.
• Support organ transplants, laser procedures, new surgical techniques, and peri‑operative LVAD support.
• Perform patient charting, maintain sterile packs, and assist with research, animal testing, and product evaluation.

Required profile

• Graduated from an accredited Perfusion School.
• Certified or certification‑eligible Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) in good standing.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a close‑knit team environment.
• Willingness to share on‑call duties and rotate 24‑hour coverage.

Required skills

• Heart‑lung machine operation.
• ECMO setup and management.
• Cell Saver and rapid infusion device operation.
• Use of fluoroscopy/X‑ray as a diagnostic aid.
• Knowledge of organ transplant and LVAD perfusion support.
