Activity Therapist 3

About the role

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking an Activity Therapist 3 to join the team at Georgia Regional Hospital – Atlanta in Decatur. This full‑time position supports clients’ mental and physical well‑being through therapeutic recreation activities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct and coordinate therapeutic recreation programs such as sports, gardening, music, arts and crafts.
• Conduct individual and group therapy sessions to improve clients’ health and social skills.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team to develop and evaluate personalized treatment plans.
• Assess client needs, interests and abilities using medical records and direct observation.
• Document client participation, progress and outcomes, adjusting programs as needed.
• Prepare and submit reports and charts for the treatment team.

Required profile

• Knowledge of DSM‑IV assessment for psychological disorders.
• Familiarity with exercise and wellness programs (yoga, aerobics, walking, relaxation techniques).
• Ability to use a recreation therapy assessment tool to track client progress.
• Strong ability to plan, develop and structure activity programs according to policies and client needs.
• Effective communication with treatment team and counselors.
