Accounting Operations Manager

About the role

The Accounting Operations Manager leads a team of professionals across levels to deliver near-term operational plans and results. The role covers team performance leadership, talent decisions, process and system improvements, and cross-functional partnerships to drive adoption of policies and best practices. It is based in Urbandale, IA on a hybrid schedule, with an expectation to work in the office at least two days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a team of professionals at all levels with guidance, support and mentorship, setting clear expectations and goals.
• Lead, direct and review team work to achieve operational plans, assigning responsibilities by skill and expertise and giving ongoing feedback.
• Provide primary input into talent decisions for direct reports, including hiring, performance, promotion and rewards recommendations.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders and external customers or vendors, and explain organizational policies so they are understood and followed.
• Influence policies and practices beyond the immediate job area by building stakeholder networks and presenting the rationale for change.
• Drive improvements to processes, systems and solutions by identifying inefficiencies, designing streamlining strategies and monitoring outcomes.
• Solve difficult problems with broad impact through in-depth analysis and clear communication across levels.
• Plan and establish team goals aligned with department objectives and vision.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in accounting or finance.
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.
• Nice to have: experience supervising supervisors in accounting or finance operations, leading complex work and resolving obstacles independently, strong stakeholder management, a proven track record of process improvement, experience working across multiple locations, and a background in controls, compliance and audit support.
