Academic Advisor, Pre-Health Advising & Mentoring

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a dedicated Academic Advisor to support undergraduate students pursuing pre‑health pathways such as pre‑medical, pre‑dental, pre‑veterinary, pre‑physician assistant, and pre‑podiatry. The advisor will work closely with the Director of the Office of Pre‑Health Advising and Mentoring and the Program Manager to guide students through coursework planning, application preparation, and professional development.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct one‑on‑one advising sessions to help students meet prerequisite requirements for health professional schools.
• Provide specialized guidance for students in tracks like Pre‑Med, Pre‑Vet, Pre‑PA, Pre‑Podiatry, Pre‑Dentistry, and Pre‑Pharmacy.
• Assist students with application components, including personal statements, CVs, and letters of recommendation.
• Stay current on admission criteria and prerequisites for various health professional programs.
• Draft committee letters, correspondence, agendas, and maintain calendars for the office.
• Coordinate events, peer‑mentoring activities, and professional development workshops.
• Collect, compile, and analyze activity data; prepare statistical and narrative program reports.

Required profile

• Familiarity with university, college, and program policies to ensure compliance.
• Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating meetings and events.
• Ability to assess student interests, strengths, and career goals.
• Experience in academic advising or related student support roles.
