Academic Advisor of TRIO Educational Talent Search

About the role

The Academic Advisor for TRIO Educational Talent Search supports high‑need, first‑generation, and academically underprepared students at St. Olaf College and partner schools. This temporary, full‑time position runs through August 31, 2027 and involves both on‑campus and occasional travel duties.

Key responsibilities

• Assess students’ interests, needs, and goals; provide information on college, career, financial aid, and academic opportunities through workshops, advising, and presentations.
• Facilitate completion of post‑secondary applications, summer enrichment camps, scholarships, and related paperwork.
• Plan and co‑supervise field trips, college visits, cultural activities, and parent workshops covering financial aid, college planning, and study skills.
• Maintain accurate eligibility documentation, case notes, and student files; assist with data management, surveys, and program evaluation.
• Recruit eligible students at partner schools, develop and execute recruitment plans, and meet stated recruitment goals.
• Establish and sustain relationships with school staff, counselors, community professionals, parents, mentors, and college personnel.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree completed by hire date.
• Experience working with students who have high financial need, are first‑generation, or are academically underprepared.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s in education, counseling, or related field; valid Minnesota teacher or counselor license; curricular development experience; prior work with TRIO students or Minneapolis/St. Paul Public Schools.
