Assistant/Associate Professor of Engineering Physics

About the role

The Department of Physics and the Engineering Studies Program at St. Olaf College seek a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty member to launch a new Engineering Physics major. The appointment begins in August 2027 and combines teaching, advising, and research responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Teach five course equivalents per year within the Engineering Studies Program, covering introductory and advanced design, systems and controls, statics, engineering thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
• Provide academic advising to undergraduate students.
• Offer leadership within the Engineering Studies Program appropriate to the career stage.
• Develop and maintain the Engineering Physics major to satisfy ABET accreditation standards.
• Conduct undergraduate‑focused engineering research and pursue external funding, with startup funds available.

Required profile

• PhD in an engineering discipline.
• Experience supervising undergraduate research and a record of competitive external funding.
• Flexibility to contribute to the physics curriculum through teaching (preferred).
• Prior teaching, industry, or postdoctoral experience.
