6th Grade ELA/Social Studies Teacher

About the role

American Paradigm Schools is seeking a dedicated 6th grade ELA/Social Studies teacher for First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School. The teacher will design curriculum resources, align instruction with state standards, and contribute to a supportive, equity‑focused learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Create a scope and sequence aligned with the PSSA Assessment Anchors.
• Develop weekly lesson plans that meet state standards and APS curriculum.
• Grade student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Communicate grade‑level expectations and school‑wide initiatives with the teaching team.
• Inform families about student progress and collaborate on interventions.
• Coordinate instruction with ESL and special‑education teachers.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with students.
• Participate in after‑school events as needed.
• Ensure the safety and well‑being of all scholars.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification.
• Experience teaching 6th grade ELA or Social Studies (preferred).
• Ability to work collaboratively with ESL and special‑education staff.
• Commitment to equity, SEL, and the Caring School Community model.
