1L Intellectual Property Fellowship – Summer 2027

About the role

McDermott Will & Schulte offers a 2027 1L Intellectual Property Fellowship across four U.S. offices. Fellows join the Summer Associate Program, handling associate‑level assignments for real clients while receiving mentorship from partners and dedicated summer mentors.

Key responsibilities

• Perform associate‑level IP work for real clients.
• Participate in extensive training, networking, and social activities as part of the Summer Associate Program.
• Engage in writing workshops, hands‑on skills sessions, and substantive practice group programming.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a U.S. ABA‑accredited law school with anticipated JD graduation in Spring 2029.
• Strong academic and personal achievement record.
• Genuine interest in a career at McDermott and intent to live and practice in the chosen city.
• Technical background in a preferred area (e.g., engineering, biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, etc.).

What we offer

• Weekly salary of $4,519.
• $15,000 scholarship toward law school education upon program completion.
• Option to return as a 2L Summer Associate in 2028.
