About the role
The Deputy General Counsel serves as a Vice President, General Counsel supporting Central Main Power (CMP) and its affiliated Maine‑based operating companies. Reporting to the Vice President, General Counsel of Avangrid Networks, this senior legal leader provides strategic counsel to senior management on complex regulatory, litigation, and commercial matters.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with the Avangrid Corporate Governance Model, governance documents, and all applicable regulatory requirements for Maine entities.
- Provide legal advice, advocacy, and direction on state and federal regulatory matters.
- Coordinate legal aspects of regulatory and commercial activities, including policy development, strategy, execution, and technology implementation.
- Advise senior leadership on regulatory developments, litigation, and commercial issues across the business.
- Manage and direct both inside counsel and outside counsel teams.
Required profile
- J.D. degree from an ABA‑accredited law school and admission to a state bar.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant legal experience, including practice before state or federal administrative agencies.
- Strong ethical values aligned with Avangrid’s core principles.
- Self‑motivated, resourceful, and able to multitask across a broad range of legal matters.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
