Vehicle Safety Engineer

About the role

The Vehicle Safety Engineer will support the KION Mobile Automation safety team, focusing on risk assessments and safety compliance for Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems and related mobile robotics solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and support risk assessments for AGV systems and mobile robotics solutions.
• Conduct system‑level risk assessments, define safety functions, and determine required performance levels.
• Execute Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and maintain safety documentation for compliance with standards such as EU Machinery Regulation, ISO 3691‑4, ANSI B56.5, and UL 583.
• Provide safety and compliance support to operating units, including on‑site assessments at customer locations.
• Define the standard safety framework, create Safety Requirements Specifications, and verify performance levels using the BGIA SISTEMA tool.
• Prepare technical safety content for documentation teams and review evolving safety standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in product risk assessment processes.
• Proven ability to lead risk‑assessment workshops and strong communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Risk Assessment methodology for mobile robotics.
• Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
• Knowledge of safety standards: ISO 3691‑4, ISO 12100, ANSI B11 series, ANSI B56.5, UL 583.
• Use of BGIA SISTEMA tool and Safexpert software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
