Underwriting Intern (Early Careers)

About the role

HCSC offers a 10-week paid Underwriting Internship, open to students in Chicago, IL or Richardson, TX. The intern learns underwriting principles and procedures, including evaluating risk for renewals and new business for employer-sponsored healthcare, and works with cross-functional teams on projects.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate risk for renewals and new business for employer-sponsored healthcare
• Assist in financial analysis of benefit designs, reporting and pricing negotiations with sales and account management teams
• Help complete financial settlements
• Research, analyze data and develop recommendations for business decisions
• Deliver a final internship presentation to department leadership
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and corporate integrity policies

Required profile

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree, rising senior in a business-related major (other majors may be considered)
• Graduation between December 2027 and June 2028
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
• Full availability for the 10-week program and unrestricted work authorization in the U.S.; sponsorship not available

Required skills

• Verbal and written communication and strong analytical skills
• PC skills, especially Excel and Word
• Basic math and time-management skills

• Base pay of $19.13 - $34.17, varying with skills, experience and location
