Traffic Control Technician Trainee (Union)

About the role

The Traffic Control Technician Trainee works under an experienced technician to direct traffic safely around utility construction work zones. This union‑affiliated position requires flexibility to meet seasonal demand and ensures the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and crew members.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with set‑up and tear‑down of work zones, including flagging, lane closures, and detours.
• Drive company trucks, keep equipment organized, and maintain safety standards on site.
• Provide clear directions to the public and customers, ensuring compliance with state and company guidelines.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety and customer service throughout all tasks.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s license with at least three years clean record.
• Current IBEW membership with Trainee classification (enrollment assistance available).
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and handle stressful situations.
• Reliable transportation for commuting throughout Northern California.

Required skills

• ATSSA Flagger Certification.
• First Aid/CPR Certification.
• Ability to read and interpret traffic signals, signs, and plans.
• Effective communication with customers, the public, and team members.
