Traffic Control Lead – Construction Site Safety

About the role

The Traffic Control Lead provides on‑site leadership and supervision for traffic control crews at construction sites throughout California. Reporting to the contractor, the Lead ensures safe execution of flagging, lane closures, detours, and other traffic management tasks while maintaining high customer service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise job sites, set up, maintain, and tear down work zones in compliance with state, federal, and company standards.
• Implement traffic plans and permits, conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses, and lead tailgate meetings.
• Provide on‑site client contact, evaluate employee performance, and assist with training and development of traffic control staff.
• Drive company trucks, operate towable equipment, and keep equipment organized and functional.

Required profile

• Current LIUNA membership with journey‑person classification and applicable CBA.
• Valid California driver’s license with clean record and experience driving medium‑duty vehicles and towing trailers.
• Ability to work independently in high‑volume outdoor environments, handle stressful situations, and communicate effectively with customers and team members.
• Strong leadership, conflict‑resolution, and customer‑service skills.

Required skills

• Proficient knowledge of Caltrans MUTCD and ability to read traffic control plans and permits.
• ATSSA Flagging, Traffic Control Tech, and Traffic Control Supervisor certifications.
• OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications.
• First Aid/CPR, TMA certification, and basic computer skills.
