Tenure‑Track Professor in Physical AI (Assistant to Full) – Boston

About the role

Northeastern University’s College of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for tenure‑track faculty positions (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the interdisciplinary area of Physical AI, embodied, wearable and assistive AI. The appointment is based in Boston and may include joint appointments with other colleges.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical and computer engineering and related AI topics.
• Develop and lead an independent, externally funded research program focused on physical AI, multi‑modal sensing, embodied systems, and related areas.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including mentorship of students and collaboration across colleges.

Required profile

• Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field.
• For Associate level: minimum 4 years of academic or equivalent experience; for Full Professor: minimum 8 years.
• Demonstrated record of interdisciplinary, translational research and recognized leadership in the field.

Required skills

• Expertise in AI, machine learning, multi‑modal sensing and learning, computer vision.
• Experience with embodied AI, human‑centric AI, explainable and trustworthy AI, AI on edge devices.
• Knowledge of physical intelligence, neuro‑symbolic AI, and AI reasoning.
