Sustainability Specialist – Office of Sustainability

About the role

The Office of Sustainability at Texas A&M University seeks a Sustainability Specialist to coordinate and advance campus-wide sustainability initiatives. Reporting to the program director, you will support the STARS reporting process, manage the student internship program, and help embed a culture of sustainability across the university.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating STARS submission programs and related projects.
• Lead a cross‑functional STARS stakeholder team and gather data from campus constituencies.
• Manage budgets for small projects and components of larger sustainability programs.
• Coordinate the OSCE Student Intern Program, including hiring, training, mentoring, and project oversight.
• Implement operational strategies to monitor progress of the Sustainability Master Plan and report effectiveness.
• Develop and deliver outreach, education, and communication activities such as Campus Sustainability Month, Earth Month, and virtual talks.
• Prepare work plans, proposals, progress reports, and meeting documentation.
• Participate in committees and engage with internal and external stakeholders to advance sustainability goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, public policy, or a related field.
• Experience coordinating sustainability projects or programs, preferably in a higher‑education setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse campus audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, budgets, and timelines independently.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing sustainability practices.

Required skills

• Familiarity with the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) framework.
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Experience with social media platforms for outreach and engagement.
