Substitute Teacher (Preschool to High School)

About the role

RISE Academy, a faith‑based nonprofit school in San Jose, is seeking part‑time substitute teachers to support classrooms from preschool through high school. You will step in for absent teachers, follow their lesson plans, and help maintain a safe, engaging learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Be available on short notice to cover assigned classes.
• Implement the incumbent teacher’s daily lesson plan.
• Supervise students during recess and lunch periods.
• Report any accidents or injuries to the office promptly.
• Submit end‑of‑day reports and accurately record worked hours.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.

Required profile

• Strong passion for teaching children and adolescents.
• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Alignment with RISE’s mission and vision.

Required skills

• Proficiency with personal computers.
• Use of calculators, projectors, and printers.
• Competence in email, internet browsing, word processing, and spreadsheets.

What we offer

• Hourly pay ranging from $22 to $28 based on experience.
