About the role
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, packaging, and processing surgical instruments and devices according to established procedures. The role supports the surgical team by ensuring all instruments are ready for use and may include clerical support as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Decontaminate instruments safely and efficiently.
- Prepare and pack surgical instrument trays.
- Operate steam and Sterrad sterilizers following departmental and manufacturer guidelines.
- Provide verbal and written shift reports to the next shift.
- Maintain aseptic technique and infection‑control practices.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to work in a fast‑changing, stressful environment with attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift and carry 40‑50 lb, stand/walk for long periods, and perform kneeling, bending, and squatting.
Required skills
- CSPDT – Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (PA) within 1.5 years.
- CRCST – Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (PA) within 1.5 years.
- IAHCSMM certification (PA) within 1.5 years.
- Operation of steam sterilizers and Sterrad equipment.
- Knowledge of decontamination, packaging, and infection‑control protocols.
