Sterile Processing Technician

About the role
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, packaging and processing surgical instruments and devices in accordance with prescribed procedures. This is a night‑shift position (23:00‑07:30) with weekend and holiday rotation at Lehigh Valley Hospital‑Cedar Crest.
Key responsibilities
- Decontaminate instruments safely and appropriately.
- Prepare surgical instrument trays and pack them for use.
- Operate steam and Sterrad sterilizers following departmental procedures and manufacturer instructions.
- Provide verbal and written shift reports to the next shift.
- Maintain aseptic technique and infection‑control practices.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, comprehend and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Capacity to work efficiently in a changing, stressful environment and pay close attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift and carry 40‑50 lb, stand/walk for long periods, and perform kneeling, bending, squatting as needed.
Required skills
- Operation of steam sterilizers.
- Operation of Sterrad (low‑temperature) sterilizers.
- CSPDT – Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (PA) within 1.5 years.
- CRCST – Certified Registered Central Service Technician (PA) within 1.5 years.
- IAHCSMM certification (PA) within 1.5 years.
