Staff Nurse – Day of Surgery Admissions (DOSA)

About the role

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a full‑time Staff Nurse to join the Day of Surgery Admissions (DOSA) team within Perioperative Services. The role focuses on assessing patient needs, coordinating care, and applying nursing theory to ensure safe, high‑quality surgical admissions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients' nursing care needs and evaluate effectiveness of interventions.
• Develop and implement individualized patient care plans based on condition, age, and psychosocial factors.
• Document interventions and patient/family responses, ensuring accurate records.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate continuum of care across settings.
• Facilitate transfer and discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
• Follow department policies, universal precautions, and safety protocols.

Required profile

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma, BSN, MNHP, MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or MSN/MA.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal abilities with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
