Specialized Pharmacy Technician – Chemotherapy

About the role

Join Ochsner’s pharmacy team as a Specialized Pharmacy Technician focused on chemotherapy preparation. You will work directly with pharmacists to ensure safe, accurate compounding of chemotherapy and other hazardous medications for inpatient and infusion units.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare 100% of shift chemotherapy products using aseptic technique and pharmaceutical calculations.
• Prepare non‑chemotherapy and controlled substances for the infusion center.
• Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment such as IV safety software, barcode software, Cadd Pump, and automated drug dispensing technology.
• Perform scheduled maintenance, cleaning of the IV room, and ensure sterility compliance.
• Assist pharmacists in maintaining an efficient medication distribution system and adhere to safety guidelines for hazardous drugs.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Current Pharmacy Technician Certification from the state Board of Pharmacy.
• ASHP Sterile Product Preparation Certificate.
• ASHP Hazardous Product Preparation Certificate.

Required skills

• Pharmaceutical mathematics and aseptic technique proficiency.
• Computer proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data entry.
• Experience with IV safety software, barcode software, Cadd Pump, and automated drug dispensing technology.
• Knowledge of safety guidelines for handling chemotherapy and hazardous substances.
