Special Education Support Specialist – Central Office (Decatur, GA)

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Special Education Support Specialist to work from its Central Office in Decatur. The specialist will assist in developing, evaluating, and monitoring curriculum and services for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and Department of Juvenile Justice policies.

Key responsibilities

• Consult with teachers to locate materials, connect them with General Education Support Specialists, and promote professional development opportunities.
• Observe students, model behavior‑intervention strategies, and advise teachers on discipline and staff development.
• Deliver formal and informal professional development sessions for teachers and administrators on a monthly basis.
• Participate in IEP meetings, collaborate with psychologists, administrators, and low‑incidence consultants to meet evaluation timelines.
• Maintain eligibility logs, generate initial and re‑evaluation reports, and correct non‑compliance issues promptly.
• Monitor expired IEPs and eligibility reports in Go IEP, ensuring timely updates.
• Facilitate professional learning trainings related to special education and conduct monthly classroom observations.
• Analyze curriculum‑based data to improve student outcomes and support special‑education teachers in developing data‑collection strategies.

Required profile

• Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
• Familiarity with federal and state special‑education regulations and IEP processes.
• Strong collaboration skills with teachers, administrators, psychologists, and case managers.
• Ability to provide behavior‑intervention support and model effective classroom strategies.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
