Software Engineer

About the role

Carnegie Robotics is seeking a Software Engineer to join an interdisciplinary team developing high‑performance robotic and automation systems for commercial products and R&D applications.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑performance software infrastructure such as message serialization, IPC, process management, and logging.
• Debug and optimize code using tools like GDB, pdb, Valgrind, perf, Callgrind, and custom CUDA kernels.
• Work with multiple languages (C, C++, Python, Rust, Go) to solve robotics problems.
• Apply knowledge of 3D geometry, computer vision, robot kinematics, and point‑cloud processing.
• Collaborate via GitHub pull requests, contribute to open‑source projects, and coordinate with test, manufacturing, and production teams.

Required profile

• Strong personal accountability and ability to work autonomously.
• Proven experience deploying autonomous systems in real‑world environments.
• Excellent written and presentation skills for internal and external communication.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Required skills

• C++ and Python programming.
• Experience with PyTorch and libtorch.
• CUDA development and performance profiling.
• Debugging tools: GDB, pdb, Valgrind.
• Additional languages: Rust, Go.
• 3D geometry, computer vision, robot kinematics, point‑cloud handling.
