Senior Strategic Buyer – Direct Materials North America

About the role

The Senior Strategic Buyer – Direct Materials (North America) will lead strategic sourcing initiatives, manage supplier relationships and drive commercial negotiations for key commodities. This position works closely with engineering, quality, logistics and operations to optimize cost, quality and delivery while building a resilient supply base.

Key responsibilities

• Lead supplier selection, RFQs, contract negotiation and cost‑reduction programs.
• Develop and execute commodity strategies aligned with annual savings targets.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts and commercial terms with domestic and international suppliers.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities, performance and risks to ensure continuity of supply.
• Manage end‑to‑end procurement from sourcing through contract execution and delivery.
• Identify and execute localization opportunities, transitioning foreign sourcing to North America where feasible.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to resolve supplier‑related escalations (quality, logistics, pricing).
• Mentor junior buyers and participate in global commodity teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment.
• Proven track record negotiating supplier contracts and delivering cost‑savings.
• Experience with direct material purchasing such as metals, castings, hydraulics or components.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret pricing structures, cost drivers and market data.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Salary range $95,000 – $115,000 annually, plus bonus.
