Senior Safety Engineer – Power Tools and Accessories

About the role

The Senior Product Safety Engineer ensures the safety of new power tools, analyzing designs to identify hazards and develop mitigation measures. This hybrid role requires 60% on‑site presence in Mount Prospect, Illinois.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze new product designs and prototypes for user hazards, assess risk, and define mitigation requirements.
• Document safety requirements in Product Safety Review and maintain them throughout development.
• Communicate safety requirements to project teams via meetings, calls, and emails.
• Review test reports to confirm safety qualification requirements are met.
• Provide safety input for user manuals, warning labels, and marketing materials.
• Mentor and train other safety engineers and product development teams.
• Develop and update safety procedures, design guidelines, and support field‑return investigations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
• 6–8 years of experience with North American agency approvals (UL, CSA), regulatory compliance (CFR, OSHA), and new product development for consumer products.
• Hands‑on experience analyzing and using power tools.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Strong understanding of North American product safety requirements and cultural usage of power tools.
