Senior Mechanical Engineer - Power Tool Product Design

About the role

Techtronic Industries (TTi) is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with product design experience to design and develop new concepts for new and mature products. TTi is a consumer products company with core lines in handheld and benchtop power tools, outdoor products and cleaning products, and the role provides product engineers with concepts and designs that make power tools more compact, powerful and efficient. The position is on-premise, though some remote work is currently required.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of components and assemblies to meet market-driven design guides and satisfy cost, timing, reliability and high-volume manufacturing requirements for consumer products.
• Build functional prototypes and test fixtures to prove designs and concepts.
• Communicate technical details and concepts to technical and non-technical team members in Anderson, SC and internationally.
• Own the technical aspects of product execution, including integration of complex components and assemblies, material selection, packaging and safety, and regulatory and standards compliance.
• Drive quality compliance across projects using tools such as value analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, design of experiments, design for manufacture, assembly and inspection, CAD analysis and 3D design tools.

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.
• 10+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Hands-on experience building functional prototypes is essential.
• An educated understanding of strength of materials is required.
• Knowledge of finite element and basic dynamics is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD and mechanism design (bearings, shafts, gears, components and assemblies).
• Proven 3D CAD experience and knowledge of GD&T.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as plastics injection molding, screw machines, powder metal, stampings and forming.
• Preferred: NX, SolidWorks, MATLAB and ANSYS.
