Senior Managing Actuary

About the role

HCSC is hiring a Senior Managing Actuary in Chicago. The role manages the implementation, maintenance and critical review and analysis of models, studies and systems that use actuarial principles for pricing, underwriting, statistics, reserving, forecasting and other actuarial functions. It is a hybrid position with an in-office requirement of three days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the implementation, maintenance and critical review and analysis of actuarial models, studies and systems used for pricing, underwriting, reserving, forecasting and other actuarial functions.
• Develop complicated models and teach others how to develop them.
• Develop written and oral presentations that support decision-making.
• Manage complex day-to-day projects involving non-actuarial departments and external parties.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics; other degrees may be considered.
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), with compliance with membership requirements.
• At least 5 years of actuarial experience in health insurance or a related field.
• At least 2 years of management or lead capacity.
• Verbal and written communication skills, including preparing documentation, facilitating training and presenting.

Required skills

• PC proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Preferred: SQL, Visual Basic or other programming skills.
• Preferred: Medicare Part D and Medicaid experience.

• Base pay range of $112,200 to $202,600, varying with skills, experience and location.
