About the role
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a transformational leader to own and optimise its operational accounting functions. The Senior Manager, Accounting Operations will act as a connector between accounting and adjacent teams such as Payroll, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing, anticipating how accounting decisions impact the broader organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate, recommend and implement process improvements for accounting operations, including system enhancements and SOP development.
- Own collaboration with Supply Chain, FP&A, People Ops, IT and other functions to ensure optimised processes and cross‑functional communication.
- Manage and develop the AP, payroll, expense reporting and state‑filing compliance team, establishing role clarity, cross‑training and accountability.
- Serve as first‑line manager for operational accounting issue triage, escalation handling, root‑cause follow‑up and process discipline.
- Document key operating procedures, create scalable SOPs and training materials, and ensure changes are communicated and adopted.
- Monitor operational accounting metrics and recurring issues to identify trends, reduce rework and improve accuracy and cycle time.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant accounting, accounting operations or finance operations experience.
- At least 5 years of supervisory or team‑lead experience in a finance/accounting environment.
- Hands‑on experience with AP, payroll coordination, expense reporting and state‑filing compliance workflows.
- Proven track record of improving processes, resolving operational bottlenecks and documenting procedures.
- Experience working cross‑functionally with Supply Chain, FP&A, People Ops/HR, ERP/IT or procurement teams.
- Strong process ownership, issue triage, prioritisation and root‑cause problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with non‑accounting stakeholders while maintaining compliance.
- People‑leadership experience including coaching, staff development and accountability management.
- Strong Excel and ERP fluency; ability to use data to identify exceptions, trends and process gaps.
