Senior Machine Learning Scientist, Protein ML, AI for Drug Discovery

About the role

Roche's AI for Drug Discovery (AIDD) group within the Computational Sciences Center of Excellence at Genentech is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to help drive research on machine learning for large molecule drug discovery. The role integrates AI and machine learning into every stage of antibody discovery, from target assessment and design optimisation to developability prediction and portfolio prioritisation, working closely with computational and experimental scientists.

Key responsibilities

• Develop generative and representation learning machine learning models for proteins and antibodies in zero-shot and few-shot regimes.
• Collaborate with scientists and researchers across disciplines and teams to build technologies for drug discovery research.
• Build and scale machine learning techniques to massive datasets.
• Contribute to and drive publications and present results at internal and external scientific conferences.

Required profile

• BS, MS or PhD in the physical sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering) or a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics), or equivalent industry research experience (3+ years for BS or MS).
• Extensive experience with large datasets, including graphs, sequences and 3D point clouds.
• At least one first-author publication in a scientific journal or machine learning conference.
• Public portfolio of projects available on GitHub.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a highly motivated, independent self-starter eager to collaborate.

Required skills

• Demonstrated experience with modern Python deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Preferred: publications in computer science and machine learning conferences (e.g. NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML).
• Preferred: experience developing ML models for images, 3D point clouds and video generation.

What we offer

• Expected salary range of $167,400 - $310,800, depending on experience, qualifications and location; actual pay determined by the employer.
