Senior Fuel Cycle and Blanket Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Senior Fuel Cycle and Blanket Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of molten‑salt process equipment for fusion energy development at Commonwealth Fusion Systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the design of fluid process systems for testing at varying scales.
• Develop specifications and designs of high‑temperature molten‑salt equipment, including vessels, tanks, valves, pumps and piping systems.
• Act as technical lead with suppliers and construction teams to procure, install and commission process equipment.
• Support mechanical reliability of fixed equipment and perform pipe‑stress evaluations with piping engineers.
• Collaborate across CFS teams to integrate R&D learnings and system requirements into component designs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of experience designing industrial‑scale fixed equipment and high‑temperature components.
• Experience managing external partners, suppliers and construction teams.
• Strong commitment to safety‑first design and execution.

Required skills

• Detailed knowledge of ASME BPVC, ASME B31.3, ASME Section I, Section VIII.
• Familiarity with API 510, API 570 and API 579 standards.
• Proficiency with P&IDs, CAD software, process flow diagrams and heat/mass‑balance analysis.
• Experience with pipe‑stress analysis, vessel nozzle load calculations, and design for corrosive fluid service.
