Senior Engineering Manager - Discovery
Faire · San Francisco
Job description
About the role
Faire is a technology wholesale platform connecting independent retailers worldwide with products from around the world. Its Discovery Experience team sits at the intersection of search, evaluation and personalization, aiming to make the discovery feel less like a search engine and more like a knowledgeable merchant. The company is looking for an experienced leader to head the Discovery Experience team, partnering with product, design and machine learning teams to build fast, relevant and personalized search and discovery experiences.
Key responsibilities
- Define and execute the technical vision for the discovery experience, covering search UX, recommendations and AI-powered discovery.
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of engineers focused on the retailer-facing discovery surface.
- Integrate AI and LLM-powered capabilities, from natural language search to intelligent query understanding and personalized results.
- Partner with product and design to raise the bar on search UX.
- Enable rapid experimentation with ranking, surfacing and personalization, working closely with ML teams.
- Champion observability and quality across the discovery stack.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration across relevance, ML, infrastructure and product engineering.
- Attract, hire and retain top engineering talent in an inclusive, psychologically safe culture.
- Align discovery investments with Faire's growth strategy and marketplace priorities.
Required profile
- 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in engineering leadership.
- Demonstrated experience on search, discovery, recommendations or related domains, ideally on both UX/product and relevance/infrastructure sides.
- Background building and shipping consumer or B2B product features at scale, with product and design.
- Track record of hiring, developing and retaining engineers in fast-moving environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Required skills
- Hands-on familiarity with AI and ML-powered product development, including LLM-based features, semantic search and personalization systems.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical direction and drive cross-functional initiatives.
What we offer
- Salary range of $231,000 - $318,000 per year in San Francisco, plus equity and benefits.
- Paid time off, company-wide recharge days and paid parental leave up to 16 weeks.
- Health coverage, fertility and family-building benefits, mental health support, professional development stipends and a retirement plan.
- Hybrid model of three office days per week, with remote work up to 4 weeks per year.
