Senior Director of Development, Gift Planning

About the role

The Senior Director of Development, Gift Planning will lead the Office of Gift Planning in achieving ambitious fundraising goals for the FORWARD campaign and beyond, managing a major donor portfolio and supervising staff.

Key responsibilities

• Guide the Office of Gift Planning to raise 20‑25% of annual and campaign attainment through planned gifts.
• Manage a portfolio of 75‑100 major and principal planned‑giving prospects, conducting at least 80 donor visits per year.
• Raise $15M+ annually while supervising five staff members, including two development officers.
• Collaborate with deans, faculty, administrators, and senior leadership to align fundraising strategies.
• Develop joint solicitation strategies with University Relations and other campus units.
• Oversee marketing, estate administration, budget management, the Founders Legacy Society, special events, the Terrapin Advisors Network, and training programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum seven years of professional development, fundraising, or external relations experience.
• Ability to interact with senior‑level executives, donors, and campus leaders.
• Strong problem‑solving, strategic planning, and deadline‑management skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of major‑gift fundraising principles and donor cultivation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
