Senior Direct Endorsement Residential Underwriter

About the role

The Senior Direct Endorsement Residential Underwriter is responsible for underwriting residential mortgage loans, ensuring optimal outcomes for Northwest and its customers. This position requires close collaboration with loan originators, realtors, title companies, and other stakeholders to move loan files efficiently through the underwriting process.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate with customers, realtors, title companies, attorneys, and settlement agents to schedule closings, respond to inquiries, resolve issues, and obtain required documentation.
• Manage a pipeline of loan files, using Northwest’s loan origination system and automated underwriting tools (Freddie Mac Loan Product Advisor, USDA GUS) to underwrite conventional, portfolio, FHA, VA, and USDA loans.
• Review and analyze documentation, appraisal reports, and title commitments for accuracy, completeness, and proper lien position.
• Maintain loan approval authority, ensure compliance with company policies, federal and state regulations, and investor guidelines.
• Meet turnaround and production goals while recommending procedural improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3‑5 years experience as a Direct Endorsement Underwriter and 5‑6 years underwriting conventional loans; experience with VA and USDA loans is a plus.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of residential mortgage loan products.
• Proficiency with Ellie Mae – Encompass loan origination software.
• Experience using Freddie Mac – Loan Product Advisor.
• Experience with USDA – Guaranteed Underwriting System (GUS) and FHA Connection.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
