It is a full-time, temporary promotion lasting 3 to 5 years, with occasional travel.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for transformation of the Institutional Safety Program, including shifts in organizational structure, requirements, audit approaches and safety ownership.
- Serve as senior advisor to agency leadership on institutional safety strategy, priorities, risks and cross-cutting issues.
- Direct enterprise evaluation and assurance activities, including resource prioritization, assessment planning and oversight of Federal safety requirements.
- Lead development of agency-level policy, governance and risk management frameworks.
- Establish the strategic framework, roles and organizational interfaces for occupational and industrial safety programs.
- Integrate institutional safety functions within the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance and set up enterprise engagement and governance structures with Mission Directorates and Centers.
- Lead collaborative forums and working groups, and develop workforce and resource strategies.
Required profile
- At least 1 year of directly related experience equivalent to GS-15 in institutional safety and mission assurance, including developing and implementing agency-level safety requirements, policies and governance.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science or another science field.
- U.S. citizen or national, able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, and willing to relocate to an on-site NASA location.
- Must pass a background investigation and file a financial disclosure report; random drug screening may be required.
Evaluation criteria
- Technical competence and leadership: leading technical teams, developing innovative methods, and partnering with industry, academia or government.
- Professional contributions: resolving complex technical challenges, sharing expertise at conferences, mentoring others and influencing field development.
The position is advertised as a temporary promotion; upon completion, the appointee returns to a position at no lower grade, which may be converted to a permanent appointment. Applications are submitted online via USAJOBS with a two-page resume addressing the evaluation criteria.
