Senior Accountant – State of Georgia

About the role

The Georgia Department of Defense is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead complex reconciliations, financial reporting, and year‑end closing for both state and federal funds. This position supports mission‑critical fiscal operations and ensures compliance with applicable regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee federal and state accounts receivable, capital asset accounting, and comprehensive ledger reconciliations.
• Contribute to state and federal year‑end close processes and prepare internal and external financial reports.
• Analyze general ledger balances, identify discrepancies, and resolve complex accounting issues.
• Apply GAAP principles, prepare statutory and regulatory reports, and ensure policy compliance.
• Assist in developing new financial policies and provide accounting expertise across departments.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of recent State of Georgia accounting experience.
• Functional knowledge of General Ledger and Accounts Receivable in Workday (GA@WORK).
• Experience working with federal funding and related compliance.
• Advanced reconciliation and problem‑solving abilities.
