Senior Academic Advisor – Graduate School

About the role

The Senior Academic Advisor provides comprehensive guidance to current and prospective graduate students, helping them select courses, navigate degree requirements, and achieve their career goals. Working in an open‑office environment at West Texas A&M University, the advisor supports recruitment, admissions, and graduation activities while serving as a key point of contact for students, parents, and faculty.

Key responsibilities

• Advise students on program and course selection, academic probation terms, and financial concerns.
• Process admission, graduation, change‑of‑term forms, transcripts, degree plans, and course substitutions using university software.
• Monitor student progress, verify degree completion, and determine residency status.
• Develop and maintain student records, informational materials, handbooks, and newsletters.
• Coordinate recruitment events, campus tours, and outreach activities to enhance student retention and partnership opportunities.
• Support graduation ceremonies and represent the university at external recruiting events.
• Supervise or direct office personnel and oversee outreach initiatives as needed.

Required profile

• Under general supervision, capable of providing academic and career counseling to graduate students.
• Strong knowledge of university policies, degree requirements, and student support resources.
• Ability to process and track academic documentation accurately.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with students, parents, faculty, and external partners.
• Experience in organizing events, training sessions, and outreach programs.
