Security Officer

About the role

The Security Officer protects Georgetown University’s campuses by ensuring the safety and integrity of buildings, access‑control systems, and emergency procedures. This full‑time, on‑site position works closely with the University Police Department and serves as a visible point of contact for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain access‑control, circulation, and safety systems for assigned buildings.
• Inspect facilities, report security and safety deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Identify and respond to unusual incidents or unauthorized intrusions, requesting assistance as needed.
• Utilize communication tools to document and report incidents promptly.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Police Sergeant or supervisory staff.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 18 years of age and eligible for a District of Columbia Security Officer License.
• Minimum one year of general work experience; security, law‑enforcement, or military experience preferred.
• Successful completion of written, report‑writing, drug, medical, psychological, and background tests.
• Professional demeanor, tact, patience, and ability to interact courteously with a diverse university community.

Required skills

• Basic computer skills.
• Proficiency with word processing applications.
