Safety Field Engineer

About the role

An employee-owned contractor in the heavy civil construction market, including the water and wastewater sector, is seeking a Safety Field Engineer for a project in the Port of Long Beach and to support its growing presence in Southern California. The role is physically on-site on a full-time basis.

Key responsibilities

• Daily on-site health and safety coordination and inspections, documenting and tracking inspection records including corrective actions
• Lead safety meeting topics and present reports monthly
• Direct required safety and health programs, correct unsafe conditions and practices, and stop work where hazards exist until they are fixed
• Develop work plans and approaches, and perform take-offs for assigned portions of the estimate
• Write and manage RFIs and submittals
• Manage costs, including tracking quantities and costs for production operations and materials

Required profile

• 3+ years of safety experience and 5+ years of construction experience
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Occupational Safety and Health or similar, or equivalent education and experience
• OSHA 30 certification
• Physical presence on site full time, strong communication skills, and a driver's license in good standing
• Preferred: prior water or wastewater facility project experience, CHST safety certification, and exposure to electrical and mechanical systems, excavation and piping including deep shoring and micro-tunneling
