Safety Engineer - Electric Propulsion Systems

About the role

Nidec Aerospace, a joint venture between Nidec and Embraer focused on aircraft electrification, is looking for a Safety Engineer to design electric propulsion systems for battery-powered aircraft. The role ensures that electric engines are designed according to aerospace safety standards, captures safety requirements, performs safety analysis and produces the documentation proving compliance. It sits in a collaborative cross-functional team of design engineers, with the location listed as Atlanta, Georgia or Brazil.

Key responsibilities

• Capture safety requirements from customer specifications and regulatory requirements
• Review the preliminary system and equipment architecture for safety
• Carry out safety-related activities for compliance with ARP4761
• Produce safety and reliability analyses and documentation, including System Safety Assessment, Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA/FMECA, Common Mode Analysis and Particular Risks Analysis
• Use reliability prediction tools such as Ram Commander to evaluate equipment failure rates
• Interface with system, equipment and electronics engineers to ensure safety aspects are addressed
• Act as focal point for cybersecurity with the customer and capture equipment requirements for cybersecurity regulations

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering or a related field
• 7 years of experience in safety assessment for electronic equipment
• Willingness to work with, and travel to, domestic and international design and manufacturing locations when necessary
