Respiratory Clinical Specialist

About the role

The Respiratory Clinical Specialist provides expert patient care, serves as a clinical educator and resource, and supports staff development within Lehigh Valley Health Network. This position collaborates with respiratory leadership to ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based care and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure staff education and competency through orientation, ongoing assessments, electronic learning systems, and professional development activities.
• Provide clinical, consultative, and technical support to staff, patients, and families, addressing patient‑care issues and promoting quality improvement.
• Develop and implement evidence‑based policies, procedures, protocols, and standards to improve care practices.
• Mentor staff and students, foster regulatory compliance (OSHA, HIPAA, TJC, DOH, ADA), and support patient safety initiatives.

Required profile

• Associate’s Degree from an accredited RRT program and at least 3 years of clinical practice with demonstrated leadership or teaching abilities.
• Current Pennsylvania Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications (or ability to obtain within 60 days).
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and NBRC certification upon hire.
• Ability to lift and carry 40‑50 lb, stand/walk for long periods, and perform patient transfers.

Required skills

• Respiratory therapy expertise (RRT, NBRC).
• Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.
• Knowledge of evidence‑based practice and regulatory compliance.
