Research Intern (Physical AI Research)
build-ai · San Francisco
Job description
About the role
We’re hiring Research Interns to train on the physical labor dataset. You will run a real research bet for about 12 weeks, not a toy project, working with high‑resolution video data at scale.
Key responsibilities
- Run a research bet on Build data: train, evaluate, ablate, and document what the data teaches.
- Collaborate with researchers, dataset owners, and evaluation teams to influence collection or evals, beyond just a presentation.
- Build the training and data pipelines you need (e.g., PyTorch, dataset slices, evals) without waiting for a platform team.
- Cover both research and engineering tasks; there is no intern track limited to notebooks.
Required profile
- Progress toward a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD (preferred) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience training real models (course, lab, open‑source, or paper) using PyTorch or equivalent.
- Interest in in‑the‑wild physical or video data rather than only academic splits.
- Ability to operate independently on a 12‑week research bet.
- Willingness to work onsite in San Francisco.
Required skills
- PyTorch
- Large‑scale training
- Distributed GPU work
