Registered Respiratory Therapist – Weekend – Children’s Hospital

About the role

The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy services to pediatric patients at the Children’s Hospital on weekends. This position involves assessing, treating, and monitoring patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders while collaborating with physicians and the care team.

Key responsibilities

• Administer physician‑prescribed respiratory therapies, including oxygen, medications, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gases (ABGs), and mechanical ventilation.
• Perform invasive and non‑invasive evaluation procedures to determine care needs and make recommendations based on department protocols.
• Monitor patients on mechanical ventilation, conduct routine rounds, troubleshoot equipment, and assist with weaning and airway care.
• Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnostic purposes.
• Document all patient care activities in compliance with quality standards and departmental regulations.

Required profile

• Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Respiratory Care.
• Less than 1 year of related experience.
• RRT certification (National Board for Respiratory Care) within 1 year of hire.
• ACLS certification within 60 days of hire.
• RCP certification (State of Pennsylvania) upon hire.

Required skills

• Proficiency in administering oxygen therapy and respiratory medications.
• Experience with pulmonary function testing (PFT) and arterial blood gas analysis.
• Knowledge of mechanical ventilation operation and troubleshooting.
• Ability to operate and maintain diagnostic respiratory equipment.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) skills.
